TagMaster North America Delivers RFID Readers PoE Capable

Tacoma, WA | June, 2016 — TagMaster North America, Inc., the leading provider of long-range, high performance Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems for Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) and access control, now provides the capability to use a single Ethernet connection for the installation of TagMaster long-range UHF and Microwave Readers.

TagMaster North America always strives to explore the possibilities provided by current and emerging technology.  They have successfully tested the installation of a TagMaster RFID Reader with the use of the “Passive Power over Ethernet” (POE) Kit, using a single Ethernet cable that does it all: power the Reader and provide TCP/IP connectivity for access control.
In a normal configuration, the RFID Reader uses individual connections for power, network connectivity, and access interfaces.  However, with a TagMaster Reader connected via the Passive POE Kit and used in conjunction with TagMaster’s ACTS (Access Control Tracking System) in a TCP/IP configuration, only the Ethernet cable is needed.  This capability is available for the XT-3 UHF Reader as well as the LR-6 Microwave Reader.
Why use an Ethernet cable over other options? No power where the Reader needs to be installed?  Through the use of only an Ethernet connection, the power source for the Reader can be reached up to 328 feet (100m) away!  This eliminates the time and expense of having to install additional electrical power near the reader.  Being able to set up a Reader within a 328ft range opens up installation options that may not have been possible before.  Also, running an Ethernet cable typically does not require a qualified electrician.
Power supplied over Ethernet connection is achieved with a dedicated power source.  With this dedicated source, the Reader is less susceptible to power overloads, under-powered situations and incorrect installation, further ensuring the already dependable TagMaster North America Reader’s operation.
Ali Khaskar, President of TagMaster North America, explained, “Cabling is a regular concern when speaking with planners and installers.  Sometimes, the greatest expense of time and cost for a project is having to run multiple cables!”  Being able to use a single industry standard Ethernet cable that handles data, power and access control with a TCP/IP configuration definitely helps reduce or eliminate this concern.

TagMaster NA RFID AVI For Universities

Finals Are Stressful. Parking Shouldn’t Be.

T2 Systems partner with TagMaster NA for Duke University parking solution
APRIL 2016—Colleges across the country are gearing up for the most daunting time of the semester: Finals Week. Most students are burying their noses in textbooks to get in some last-minute cramming. Professors are busy planning their summer getaways and dreading the impending stacks of exams that need grading. But students and professors share one thing in common: no one wants to worry about fumbling around with inconsistent manual-access gates just to find a parking spot on test day.

Today’s leading universities invest heavily in structural parking systems, and integrators and installers stake their reputation on the success of the solution they choose to implement. Potential areas include student parking and faculty parking, new student parking and veteran student parking, parking specific to a school of the college, and even sorority and fraternity parking. In a rush to get to class on time during a bustling day on campus, it is not uncommon for unauthorized vehicles to fill a lot allocated to a specific group. This starts a chain reaction of parking inefficiencies and diminishes the value of having structural parking systems in the first place.

That’s why numerous universities, as well as airports, hospitals, and other institutions across the nation are turning to hands-free, Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI). AVI is the goldmine solution that structural parking users have been searching for, using automated cutting-edge Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology.  After deciding to implement an RFID AVI platform, choosing the right solution is critical. TagMaster NA, the leading provider of RFID platforms, offers AVI systems that are ideal for applications at colleges and universities.

Hands-Free, Hassle-Free

Upon deploying an RFID AVI TagMaster system, students and faculty feel the stress of gaining entry and finding a parking spot lifted from their shoulders. TagMaster’s RFID Readers quickly verify a vehicle’s credentials to open an entrance gate and TagMaster Tags (transponders) serve as the identity authorization for a vehicle or individual. These systems allow students, faculty, and staff entry into their assigned lot without having to stop or roll down a window. This is especially helpful on rainy days, at night, during rush hours when queues are long, or when students are pressed for time because they stayed up all night to finish that 20-pager. Fortunately, the days of rummaging through the accrued stacks of paper inside a vehicle are over. Multiple options including dashboard, windshield, and rear-view mirror mounted tags make TagMaster’s RFID AVI even more convenient since credentials will be in one stationary, secure place.

Benefits of TagMaster AVI in a University Setting

T2 Systems integrate with TagMaster NA for Duke University
1.    Safety. Colleges often have “emergency buttons” and phones stationed all over campus for students to use when their safety is threatened, but parking lots and garages remain vulnerable areas. Students using the library late at night or athletes attending early morning practices at the gym shouldn’t need to roll down their windows or exit their vehicle when entering a lot.

2.    Security. 21st century students have abandoned paper and pencils for expensive laptops, smartphones and tablets. While these technologies can aid the learning process, they also increase the chances of car break-ins and theft if students are forced to park in an open lot or on the street.

3.    Customizable. Universities know that school spirit plays a crucial role in student retention, rankings, and even alumni giving. That’s why TagMaster NA offers customizable RFID AVI options for the tags that are prominently displayed on or in vehicles. Tags can be customized to include the colors and logo of a university, include zone restrictions and validation dates, and can even be color coded to easily identify unauthorized vehicles.

4.    Tag Fulfillment. Budget planning is imperative for every business and organization, specifically for organizations in the business of education where budgets tend to be tight. Investing in a TagMaster NA AVI system also means investing in a convenient and efficient way to fulfill additional tag requirements. Universities have a constant flow of new students and faculty members, which makes streamlined tag fulfillment a must. With a tag fulfillment system in place, administrators are able to plan in advance for fulfillment shipments in an efficient and timely manner. These tags can be stocked on-site for quick and easy access when needed, or stocked by the system supplier for fulfillment on an as-needed basis.

5.    Faculty Access. Professors are exceptionally busy, and rarely have time to meet with students outside of office hours. The best students, however, are exceptionally tenacious, and would eagerly stop a professor on the way to their car given the chance. Dedicated faculty lots that are efficiently and reliably enforced with RFID AVI systems prevent such unwanted interactions, and make it easier for the faculty, any university’s most valuable asset, to get to class on time, every time. Satisfied faculty is an essential factor when choosing an RFID AVI parking system.

6.    Revenue. One of parents’ most common questions is, “Should my student bring their car to school?” Colleges have enormous opportunity to benefit from increased parking revenues if more students and parents are confident bringing a car to campus. Not having to park on-street can even reduce insurance premiums. Word travels fast on campus! Now is the time to start reaping the benefits of TagMaster AVI.

For these reasons and more, TagMaster NA has been the trusted choice of higher education RFID AVI across the country for nearly a decade. Please visit us at www.TagMasterNA.com and stay up to date with TagMaster NA on social media.

Good luck to all students and faculty, and congratulations Class of 2016!

DoorKing and TagMaster NA Provide Access Solution for Cal Stripe

TagMaster AVI products and DoorKing Access Controllers allow for hands-free truck access.

TagMaster North America, Inc., the leading provider of long-range and high-performance Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems for Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI), was installed at the Cal Stripe maintenance yard in Colton, CA.

Cal Stripe, one of the line-painting contracts for the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans), originally used manually operated gates that required truck drivers to get out of their vehicles and open the gates themselves.

Rising Star Industries installed the solution using LR-6 PRO readers, utilizing TagMaster’s long-range read lobes to open the DoorKing 9000 slide gates for the work trucks as soon as they are within range.  Tamper Evident (TpE) S1281 tags were installed on the windshield of maintenance and work vehicles to allow access 24 hours a day and select employees also have

Measuring the Total Cost of Ownership in AVI (Part 1)

There are three primary areas of AVI that incur initial and follow up costs.  They include the readers, the tags and the service / maintenance.  This three part series will look at each aspect of the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and illustrate how to calculate TCO.  In our first part, we evaluate the readers themselves.

When paying for an entirely new install, the customer is inclined to look at the bottom dollar price and will fail to include the additional costs that come from operating a technical AVI system.  Readers, while often not the largest single line item (tags are because of their quantity), they do have the largest initial single item cost.

One thing that will increase the TCO is the lifecycle length of the reader.  If your reader does not include backward compatibility and a long lifecycle, then your total cost over the lifetime of the project can increase dramatically.  Replacing a single discontinued reader may involve a total system replacement.

A second issue is the reader’s compatibility with

Happy Doctors at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi

Press Release

Tacoma, Washington- August 25, 2009 - TagMaster North America, Inc., the leading provider of long-range and high-performance Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems for Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) announced today that Baptist Medical Center has deployed the TagMaster system to manage entry to restricted parking lots for its doctors. The Baptist Medical Center (BMC), located in Jackson, Mississippi, has been serving the local community for over a century with its unique brand of comprehensive and compassionate health care services.

Deceptively simple, the clickers used by doctors for decades presented a host of thorny problems: parking operations could not be effectively and efficiently managed with a manual device, there was no ability to track, monitor, control and manage parking usage, and mitigate infractions as needed; traffic flow and parking availability was not optimal particularly in peak conditions; security was breached, since anyone with a clicker operating in the same frequency could gain entry to the parking facilities; moreover, the clicker could easily be distributed to friends, family and fellow staff.

During a quick 6-week implementation that was completed in November 2008, Security Support Services, a prominent Jackson-based provider of full-range security support and investigation services, installed a total of 7 TagMaster readers – a combination of LR-6 and LR-6 XL readers to accommodate unique extended long-range requirements – in tandem with a market-leading access control system and gates. A total of 700 S1255 MarkTags have been distributed to doctors during the gradual roll-out.

With the implementation of TagMaster readers and tags, BMC Security Group is now able to effectively and efficiently track, monitor, and manage parking usage. Additionally, security is dramatically tightened, as only vehicles with valid TagMaster ID-tags are able to gain access to the reserved section of the two parking lots. Due to the speed of entry and exit facilitated by the TagMaster RFID AVI solution, traffic flow is smoother; doctors experience improved convenience and are able to report to duty much more quickly with considerably less stress than before. Doctors are happy. BMC Security is happy. It’s a happy ending at Baptist Medical Center!

For the Chicago Trump Tower Project currently underway, SKIDATA and TagMaster have collaborated to create a fully compatible PARCS and RFID Reader System.

SKIDATA's Distributor, Automated Parking Technologies, is heading up the project featuring TagMasters Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) System. It uses LR-series readers with Watchman firmware thats fully compatible with SKIDATA systems. Over 500 Tags are already in use with Readers in place by entrances and exits at the Trump Tower.

TagMaster had a positive response when asked about their integration with SKIDATA's Parking and Revenue Control Systems (PARCS). Ali Khaksar, Managing Director of TagMaster/North America, said "Thanks to software collaboration between TagMaster and SKIDATA, TagMaster Readers can be configured from SKIDATAs system and easily integrated with SKIDATAs system. This feature makes the system admin-friendly, a rather crucial quality for a system that needs to be deployed on a large scale. This is invaluable to anyone who maintains a large installation. With TagMaster's world-class RFID devices, designed for quick and simple configuration and step-by-step implementation, we will meet a need in the market and allow customers to maximize efficiency and profitability within their businesses.

Eric Risch, President of Automated Parking Technologies (APT), noted that the Chicago Trump Tower installation is about 70% completed and includes a wide variety of PARCS technologies:

- Entry and exit lanes using TagMaster AVI, Intercoms, and Cameras
- Full Lock-out gates with TagMaster AVI and Free-out exit gates
- Easy.Cash Pay-on-Foot Stations
- Remote administrative desktop control with revenue-monitoring software
- A Valet Parking System with SKIDATA integration

Eric Risch's input on the project is that The installation has gone very smoothly so far. They have been open for several weeks using the AVI and transient components of the system. In short, the Chicago Trump Tower's PARCS system clearly shows the user-friendly adaptation of SKIDATA's parking technologies with TagMasters Readers a collaboration which can increase revenue for venues using both RFID devices and other PARCS systems.
