ACTS Allows for Bus and Pedestrian Access to Logan Bus Depot

TagMaster NA’s embedded software system authorizes personal access using proximity cards in addition to vehicle access using long-range RFID tags.

TACOMA, Wa. | April 17, 2013 — TagMaster North America, Inc., the leading provider of long-range and high-performance Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems for Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI), was installed by Scheidt & Bachmann at the Logan International Airport Green Bus Depot.

ACTS (Access Control Tracking System) Essential, powered by ArmID, is reader embedded access control software that can control up to two long-range TagMaster readers: a Main reader and a Sub reader. Each tag read is an event that is verified against the database, time stamped, and logged. The web interface is where the database is updated and maintained, reports are downloaded, and gates can be opened remotely with the touch of a button.

The Logan International Bus Depot, part of the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport), required a system that could function as a standalone turnkey solution that was easy to operate and maintain. Two LR-6 PRO readers (using ACTS Essential) were integrated with Tilt-A-Way gates from Ideal Mfg Inc. An HID ProxPro reader for a nearby pedestrian entrance was connected directly to the exit lane LR-6 PRO, ensuring that only authorized users enter the bus depot.

Using ACTS, Massport is now able to print reports showing history of entries and exits of individual vehicles tagged using the S1355 MarkTag ODU (Logan Airport shuttle buses, maintenance vehicles, operations staff vehicles) and pedestrians using Clamshell ProxCard II.

“S&B has been an excellent partner with Massport both in the past and for this project,” said Chris Hanlon of Massport. “Brian Donahue, who has worked with us for years, has been very accommodating and continues to provide us with the highest level of service we could ask for.”

Scheidt & Bachmann completed installation in September 2012 and the entire system proved reliable through a challenging first winter.
