TagMaster NA’s Northernmost Installation Withstands the Cold

TagMaster RFID access control solution installed at Yellowknife Airport in the Northwest Territories, the busiest airport in northern Canada.

TACOMA, Wa. | March 15, 2012 — TagMaster North America, Inc.,
the leading provider of long-range and high-performance Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems for Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI), products were installed at Yellowknife Airport (YZF) for efficient, hands-free shuttle and maintenance vehicle access. Integrated with the RFID solution are the ACTS Essential access control system and Magnetic barriers.

ACTS (Access Control Tracking System) Essential, powered by ArmID, is an embedded access control software that allows the customer to add vehicles and activate tags, deactivate lost or stolen tags, open gates remotely, manage access schedules, and generate reports, all from a web-enabled, easy-to-use interface using any standard web browser.

The Yellowknife Airport, located approximately 250 miles south of the Arctic Circle, required a system that worked reliably in cold weather. The TagMaster system, provided by Trafco Canada, allows repeat airport customers driving shuttles hands-free access and automatic entry to pickup lanes. Shuttle drivers are now able to attend to their customers quickly and efficiently, without having to manage paper tickets for a revenue system.

“The robust TagMaster products, along with the superior customer service provided by TagMaster North America, make this one of the best long-range access control solutions on the market today,” said Trafco Sales Manager, Kevin Shoults. “You set it up and it works, rain or shine, or in Yellowknife’s case, cold or colder.”
Trafco completed installation in the summer of 2011 and the system has worked flawlessly in the frigid northern Canada climate which averages -27° F (-33° C) in January and has seen record lows of -71° F (-57.2° C).

Regional Transit System Finds the Right Solution with TagMaster

TACOMA, Wa. | January 3, 2012 — TagMaster
RFID products are now used in conjunction with Coencorp’s automated fuel management system, FuelZone Transit, at all six of the Coast Mountain Bus Company’s service locations.

Coast Mountain Bus Company (CMBC), based in Burnaby, British Columbia, connects the region by providing a customer centric transportation network that values safety and excellence and strives to be a leader in environmental performance. CMBC installed Coencorp’s FuelZone Transit system in 2007 and replaced a previous RFID system with the TagMaster solution in 2010.

RFID tags are mounted on the roof of each bus and readers are installed on the ceiling to check the bus in at each fuel lane. Once a bus is identified, the fuel management system unlocks the appropriate pumps while a Coencorp wireless Vehicle Data Unit (VDU) transmits information such as mileage and idle time to the system controller.

The Heavy Duty TagMaster tags have fully predictable life spans, independent of the number of times read, allowing CMBC to plan replacements and avoid monitoring the remaining life of the tag. Heavy Duty tags are able to withstand vigorous carwash jets and brushes every day and stay securely mounted to the roof of each bus.

TagMaster’s LR-6 readers installed on the ceiling use an adjustable read lobe to only read the tag on the bus parked beneath the reader. A defined read lobe allows multiple readers to be located close together without reading across lanes.

“The TagMaster system has improved our data capture rate and the system has operated without any issues for over a year. I would recommend TagMaster tags and readers for systems where reliable tag response is needed and/or a defined tag lifespan is needed,” said CMBC Maintenance Planning Manager, Derek Leach. RFID data capture improved to 99.9% once the TagMaster system was installed and CMBC has now implemented TagMaster RFID across their entire fleet. Project completion is expected early 2012.

Tighter Parking Controls Realized at Chapman University by TagMaster AVI System

Tacoma, Washington | August 02, 2011 - TagMaster North America, Inc.,
the leading provider of long-range and high-performance Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems for Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) announced Chapman University in Orange, CA. as a recent addition to its customer base of successful installations, solidifying its market presence in the university sector. Automated Access Systems, Inc., a regional leader in access control and parking solutions, with offices in Anaheim, CA. and Phoenix, AZ., performed the installation. Prior to the installation, parking controls were virtually non-existent. With no barrier gates to restrict entry and exit, anyone - students, faculty, staff, and visitors - could park anywhere, anytime. The use of proximity technology for vehicle entry and exit was investigated but was regarded as overly manual and time consuming. The university therefore decided to install 18 TagMaster LR-6 Pro readers and 12,000 S1255 MarkTags to control the gates and records vehicle counts.

Chapman University has enjoyed the benefits of tighter parking controls, thus dramatically enhancing their ability to manage parking operations. Students are now able to park in assigned parking structures at specific times. Faculty and staff have the assurance of exclusive parking in designated parking areas. Visitors with pay-and-display privileges can park at specified times. What's more, guards are no longer needed to monitor the parking areas for violators during normal university hours. Vehicle entry and exit time has also been accelerated due to TagMaster's convenient, hands-free and highly automated RFID AVI technology, contributing greatly to enhanced traffic flow, especially during congested periods.

With vehicle entry and exit time substantially reduced, resulting in decreased time spent queuing during peak times; carbon foot print has been minimized, thus promoting minimal environmental impact. Additionally, tighter parking controls and elimination of need for guard monitoring during core university hours have contributed to overall cost savings for Chapman University.

Sheryl Boyd, Supervisor of Parking and Transportation Services, at Chapman University noted, "The implementation of parking control systems at our most centrally located parking facilities has allowed us to provide better customer service for our students, faculty and staff. The ease of entry and exiting utilizing TagMaster's RFID AVI's allowed for a smooth transition into this new approach to managing our parking facilities here at Chapman University. We have also been able to utilize occupancy data provided by the TagMaster Readers to better allocate our parking resources."

TagMaster North America launches the New HR-2 Handheld for Vehicle Access Applications

Tacoma, Washington | May 18, 2011 - TagMaster North America, Inc.,
the leading provider of long-range and high-performance Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems for Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) launches the new HR-2 handheld reader for vehicle identity, security, access management and parking applications. The HR-2 (ACTS version) is a fully portable handheld RFID Reader providing read/write capability for TagMaster’s range of 2.45 GHz ID-tag. The combination of this portable RFID device and its touch screen user interface with TagMaster’s powerful Linux operating system provides integrators with the flexibility to customize or enhance the functionality of the HR-2. The HR−2 includes an Ethernet interface, which allows direct access to the built−in web interface where the user can adjust settings and gain access to stored event logs.

Parking mangers that need to quickly identify the authorized monthly parkers are now able to ensure more efficient and speedier enforcement operations while enjoying the list of benefits offered by TagMaster technology. Each TagMaster tag mounted on the windshield contains a unique ID correlated with vehicle and monthly parker’s information in the handheld, which defines where the vehicle can legally park. The handheld is synchronized daily with a back-end database, to get batch updates of data so parking administrators always have up-to-date parking information. Each handheld can hold information up to 5000 monthly parkers information.

“With every new product introduction, TagMaster NA strives to render more convenient for the parking industry as well as a broad range of other industries which benefit from next-generation RFID products and embedded customized software solutions” Ali Khaksar, president of TagMaster North America, noted,”Universities, hospitals, airports, mixed-use development projects, and public parking garages, are some among many customer segments expected to reap the benefits.”

The HR-2 handheld (ACTS version) will be showcased at 2011 IPI Conference & Expo - May 22-25, Pittsburgh. The IPI Conference & Expo, the largest educational and networking event for parking and transportation professionals in the world.
